GENERAL INFORMATION
What is the Charlottetown Dragon Boat Festival?
The Charlottetown Dragon Boat Festival is a community-driven event celebrating teamwork, wellness, and cultural diversity. Organized by DragonBoat PEI in partnership with the City of Charlottetown, this volunteer-led festival brings together local businesses, municipal teams, and community groups for friendly competition on the water. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Make-A-Wish PEI, supporting their mission to grant wishes to children with critical illnesses.
When and where is the festival?
The festival will take place on August 29, 2026, at Victoria Park in Charlottetown. The main location is the open field beside the Kiwanis Dairy Bar.
Is there an admission fee for spectators?
No, the festival is free for all spectators. Come and enjoy the races, food vendors, and family-friendly activities!
TEAM REGISTRATION
How do I register a team?
Teams can register by visiting the Team Info page. Please complete the registration form and submit the required fee to secure your spot.
What if I don’t have a team, can I still join?
Yes you can! We are collecting individual information, and we will help you create a team. Register here and we will be in contact to get you setup with a team.
How much is the registration fee?

What is included in the registration fee?
The fee covers: Use of a dragon boat, paddles, and life jackets; a coached training session prior to race day; full support on race day, including safety personnel and event coordination
What is the deadline to register?
The registration deadline is July 6, 2026. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.
TEAM COMPOSITION
How many people are on a dragon boat team?
Each team should have 15-17 members, including: A minimum of 14 paddlers; 1 drummer; Optional alternates (up to 2); A steersman will be provided for each team; however, you may choose to bring your own steersman, provided they hold a valid steersman certificate. Race officials reserve the right to replace any steersman who is deemed unsafe or causes delays.
Is there an age requirement for participants?
Yes, all participants must be at least 16 years old on race day.
Do we need prior paddling experience?
No prior experience is necessary. A coached training session will be provided to all teams to ensure everyone is prepared for race day.
RACE DAY DETAILS
What is the race format?
Each team will participate 200-meter race.
What should team members wear?
Participants should wear: comfortable, moisture-wicking clothing; secure, closed-toe water shoes or sandals with straps (no flip-flops); Sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are recommended
What should we bring on race day?
Teams are encouraged to bring:
A 10’ x 10’ freestanding tent
Folding chairs and a table
Team banner or decorations
Coolers with water and snacks
Garbage bags for cleanup
Is there parking available?
Parking is available in designated areas around Victoria Park. Please follow signage and volunteer instructions on race day.
SAFETY AND REGULATIONS
Are life jackets provided?
Yes, life jackets are provided and must be worn by all participants during practices and races.
Will there be first aid available on site?
Yes, certified First Aid responder will be on-site throughout the festival to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators. If you require medical assistance, please notify a volunteer or go directly to the First Aid tent.
